Texas Governor threatens to secede from US during Tea Party protest

by

Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry threatened to secede from the United States during a Tea Party protest in Austin.  Amid Texas flag-waving, protesters chanted “Secede!  Secede!”

Lone Star State may get lonlier.

Perry is attending three Tea Party protests today.  He contends that the federal government is spending too much and blah blah blah.  The juice comes in the following quote:

There’s a lot of different scenarios. We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.

This would make time #2 that Texas attempted to secede from the union.  During the Civil War, Texas seceded, but returned to the union after the North won.

Go for it Texas.  Let’s see how quickly the drug cartels run the streets of El Paso.

You’re kidding right? Without the constraints that the criminal and vermin loving Liberals place upon them, Texas could wipe out the cartels in short order.

They know their history and they know who their true and longstanding enemies are. I doubt that they’d be kind or merciful, but they’d sure as the Hell you’re going to end up in be efficient.

Dude, El Paso is already overrun by the drug cartels. If Texas were to piss off the United States, the US would not help them militarily. There are over 100,000 well-armed well-trained soldiers just over the border. It would be quick and unmerciful. Not to mention the fact that the United States would never allow Texas to secede. It’s just stupid posturing to help a Governor get re-elected.

      • Lance R. Haynie Says:

I agree and disagree at the same time. I think that if allowed Texas could defend itself from the drug cartels. I am not sure if this current administration would do anything about it if Texas were to secede — honestly.

Either way though shouldn’t it be about what the people want? While I am a native Texan, I do not agree with secession. However, if Texas as a whole wants to should we not have that right? We are a republic, let the people as a whole decide.

If its just stupid posturing though, it is working. But what about HCR 50?

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

I am a native Texan, and I would hate for Texas to secede. However, I believe that Texas could take care of itself, and other states need us more than we need them. It has been said that the United States government would not help Texas if she did secede. Well, I do not think that the United States government is helping us in any way NOW. How about those open borders? I am SICK of the mess in Washington, and I HATE what is going on there. But, we conservatives must stick together and make things change; and, we can do it. We will. We could start making things a lot better by sending all those liberals in Texas to the liberal capitol of the world -California.

  3. Joel Lightly Says:

Texas should feel free to secede at any time…taking its fair share of the current federal debt and giving all sane people in Texas one week to get out.
