Republican congresswoman Foxx claims that Matthew Shepard story is a hoax

April 29, 2009

I can’t even tell you what the fuck North Carolinian congresswoman Virginia Foxx is talking about.  If you shut your eyes, you may think that the hate spewed from Foxx’s mouth could only be attributed to someone as dumb as Michelle Bachmann.  Here is the video:

The Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed.  But we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery, it wasn’t because he was gay.  The Hate Crimes bill was named for him, but it’s really a hoax.

Where are the facts to back up your claim?  Who is we?  You and Fred Phelps?  Every major newspaper and the local police department agreed that Matthew Shepard was lured from the bar by two men and then beaten to death.  He was not committing a crime.

Foxx’s statement was made while the House was debating a new Hate Crimes bill.  Apparently, Matthew Shepard’s mother was in attendance.

I’d like to see a source outside of godhatesfags.com that will corroborate Foxx’s foolish story.

Florida Republican hosts Anti-Islam Summit

April 28, 2009

This is some Orwellian dickery.  Florida Republican Representative Adam Hasner hosted the “Free Speech Summit” over the weekend where a keynote speaker demanded that the Koran be outlawed and that religious freedom should not include Islam.  Hasner also left the House chamber during a Muslim prayer on Monday.

Hasner invited Chair of the Parliamentary Party of The Netherlands Geert Wilders to speak at his “Free Speech Summit.”  At the event, Wilders said that Islam was not a true religion, that the Koran calls for hatred and terrorism, and that free speech should not apply to Muslims.  Here is the video:

Hasner also showed Wilders’ movie FITNA at the summit and applauded its Anti-Islam message.

Wilders is a devoted Catholic and apparently hasn’t read the portion of the Bible where God tells Aaron to slaughter every Canaanite in sight.   The good people of Florida need to get rid of Hasner.  He clearly hates the founding principles of this country.

California GOP cries racism over popular Tea Party sign

April 23, 2009

At the tea party I attended, I saw little to no racist signs.  One loon in the corner that was yammering about Obama’s birth certificate aside, the protest mostly focused on demonizing the Democratic leadership.  I know that isn’t what the teabaggers wanted me to get out of it, but that is what it ultimately was.

Several days after the tea parties have ended, the California GOP is actually accusing tea baggers of racism.  Who saw that coming?  Anyway, the sad part about their cries is that the sign in question is simply not racist.  Apparently, their just not as used to playing the race card as the Democrats are.

This is it.

This is it.

Aside from being one of the only truly bipartisan signs, this is an odd message for any Republican to be delivering.  But that’s the point.  This sign was actually created by Ron Paul supporters.  The GOP in California wants to back as far away from this sign as possible.

If Israel didn’t have a Star of David on their flag, then maybe this sign could be considered racist.  But the first thought that went through my head upon seeing it was this:  We give money and weapons to Israel who end up killing a whole bunch of Palestinians.  That isn’t an opinion.  That’s fact. The last scuffle between the two ended with several hundred dead Palestinians and two dead Israelis.

You could make a similar sign using hands from Hezbollah and Hamas dumping cash into a funnel with a Palestinian flag on it and ending with dead Israelis.  That’s not racist.  It’s fact.   People have a right to be mad about shit like this.

The bottom line is that the word “racist” is thrown around far too much these days.  If the California GOP deems this sign “racist” then that stops all real discussion about the policies that the sign is critiquing.

Louisiana man arrested for defamation of local police chief picked up by ACLU

April 22, 2009

UPDATE: I completely fucked up this story.  There was no op-ed piece.  It was an email written by Simmons to the newspaper.

A lot of people have problems with the ACLU.   Whether it’s defending the rights of illegal immigrants or demanding stringent political correctness, many people in the United States feel like the ACLU is just an organization of lefty loonies that do harm to the United States.  It’s an incredibly naive way of thinking if you recognize all the good the organization has done, especially in regards to the crimes of the Bush Administration.  But this story isn’t about that.

You want them on your side.

When the shit hits the fan, you want them on your side.

Enter Bobby Felix Simmons, a man from Layfayette, Louisiana that wrote a controversial op-ed for the local newspaper sent a controversial email to the local newspaper.  In the article email, Simmons said that the police chief was getting a free pass on allegations of improper conduct in the press.  Now you may think that the worst that could happen to Simmons is that he is taken to task in a subsequent op-ed, but Mamou police chief Greg Dupuis doesn’t roll that way.

Rather than publicly denouncing the op-ed, Dupuis had Simmons arrested in his home for public defamation.  Simmons maintains that Dupuis is trying to take away his civil rights and the ACLU agrees.

Janeane Garofalo claims all teabaggers are racists, delegitimizes real criticism

April 20, 2009

Janeane Garofalo needs to shut her organic free-trade pie-hole before she ends up as the token liberal douchebag on Fox News.  During an appearance on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Garofalo pulled the racism card faster than George W. Bush repealed the Kyoto Protocol.

Olbermann started the segment by showing a video of a liberal blogger pwning a bunch of eager teabaggers with memories that can only be measured in nanoseconds.  Here is the video:

After the video was played, Garofalo immediately pulled the race card, immediately delegitimizing any real criticism:

You know, there’s nothing more interesting than seeing a bunch of racists become confused and angry at a speech they’re not quite certain what he’s saying. It sounds right and then it doesn’t make sense. Which, let’s be very honest about what this is about. It’s not about bashing Democrats, it’s not about taxes, they have no idea what the Boston tea party was about, they don’t know their history at all. This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. And there is no way around that.

When will progressives realize that branding any dissenters with the racist label is a losing strategy?  It doesn’t convince anyone that you’re right.  It’s stupid, childish, and easy fodder for the anti-PC crowd.   Fox then uses videos like this (of course, without showing the above video) to show that the criticism coming from the left is from the “usual suspects” of PC nutjobs.

Stop making the rest of us look bad.  If they break out the white sheets and lynching supplies, then we can start breaking out those words.  But until then, let’s attack substance and not resort to ad hominem.

Dumbest Comment Volume 1: Huffington Post vs. Fox Nation

Welcome to our first volume of the Dumbest Comment where we nominate two of the dumbest comments from the blogosphere for a battle royale for supreme stupidity.

Without futher ado, let the dumbassery begin!

Story: Bush Should be Deposed in Lawsuit Over Presidential Library, Judge Rules

User: benjaminblue

Call him in for absolutely any reason — underhand real estate dealings for the library, jay-walking or whatever. Once he’s there, lock the door and throw away the key. There is ample evidence that this man is a dangerous criminal, one guilty of hundreds, if not thousands, of inane, immoral, illegal and treasonous deeds. All that remains is to incarcerate him.

Story: Rush: Should Tea Parties Lead to 3rd Party?

User:  The Proctologist

No matter how many different parties you have you will never please everybody. This is why the party that can lie the best is the one that wins. There are many people that supported Obama that couldn’t tell you how many judges sit on the supreme court. Many for the first time because of color or how much they would get. Than there are the the ones with white guilt that in their minds makes them non racist by voting for a black man that clearly was not the right person for the job. This country has come to the point where everything must be politically correct, we must sacrifice integrity, morals, honor, and now security all in the name of affirmative action. The GOP needs to get back to basics, starting with honesty being the best policy. Than they need to educate the people on the fact that they do much better, and the country does better when they support themselves. “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link” and we wonder why the country is about to snap!!!

It’s the battle of the thesaurus gone awry (benjaminblue) vs. thinly-veiled racism (The Proctologist).  Who will come out on top for today’s dumbest comment?

Gay sex storm coming to claim nation’s children

April 9, 2009

Assorted assholes at The National Organization for Marriage hired a bunch of out-of-work actors to stir up hatred against The Gay Storm.  It’s going to corrupt your kids.  It’s going to take away your freedom.  And it’s all going down…this summer on Pay-Per-View.

One by one, each state in the United States is going to legalize same-sex marriage.  Like it or not, it’s going to happen.  All of the Christian Coalition hypocrites are just going to have to get used to equal rights for the queers.  This is not something that can be stopped.  You are wasting your money.  Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

And my god, there are going to be huge Pride parades after each one.  The federal government might as well step in now with a federal amendment to the Constitution legalizing gay marriage.  That way there will only be one gigantic gay orgy.  If we go with the state-by-state solution, every single person in the country is going to be treated to gay festivals of epic proportions.

This is what happens when you are on the wrong side of history.  When your grandkids ask you if you voted against the rights of a minority, hang your head in shame, knowing full well that the only way that they will respect you is if you lie to them.

As for these people, they are insignificant.  Let the old die and the youth will change the face of this nation.  State by state.

Vermont overrides Governor, legalizes same-sex marriage

April 7, 2009

Well, that was quite the turnaround from the doom and gloom of yesterday.  After Republican Governor Jim Douglas vetoed a same sex marriage bill, the Vermont state legislature overrode him and passed the law anyway.

OVERRIDDEN

OVERRIDDEN

This once again proves my point that bans on same-sex marriage are going to die out within the next decade.   All the armies in the world can’t stop an idea whose time has come.   Congrats to Vermont.

Vermont Governor vetoes same-sex marriage bill

April 7, 2009

I think it’s safe to say that if Vermont had elected a Democrat in 2002 instead of Republican Jim Douglas, they would have become the next state to legalize same-sex marriage.  I don’t understand the point in decisions like this.  Measures like Prop 8 are only going to be on the books for maybe 10 more years before they are repealed.

Fail is fail.

Fail is fail.

Live and let live.
