Judge says Blagojevich can’t travel to Costa Rica for reality TV show

April 21, 2009

You have to give Rod Blagojevich some credit.  Despite defining corrupt Chicago politics, Blagojevich deals with the sticks and stones with such nonchalance that it is difficult to despise him.

How can you not love the man?

How can you not love the man?

Last week, Blago tried to petition the District court system to allow him to travel to Costa Rica for a reality TV show.  Filmed deep in the foliage of a rain forest, the show is called, “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!”  A bit ironic that Blago would petition the court to participate in such a show.

In any case, Costa Rica is about the most goddamn beautiful place I’ve ever been.  Even in the thick of the rain forests, there are paths everywhere.  Stay on the path and you’ll be perfectly safe from threats.

Anyway, U.S. District Judge James Zagel denied Blagojevich’s request to be on the show, saying:

I don’t think this defendant fully understands and I don’t think he could understand … the position he finds himself in.

Ouch.  You mean the law applies to politicians as well?  Surely you jest!

Dumbest Comment Volume 1: Huffington Post vs. Fox Nation

Welcome to our first volume of the Dumbest Comment where we nominate two of the dumbest comments from the blogosphere for a battle royale for supreme stupidity.

Without futher ado, let the dumbassery begin!

Story: Bush Should be Deposed in Lawsuit Over Presidential Library, Judge Rules

User: benjaminblue

Call him in for absolutely any reason — underhand real estate dealings for the library, jay-walking or whatever. Once he’s there, lock the door and throw away the key. There is ample evidence that this man is a dangerous criminal, one guilty of hundreds, if not thousands, of inane, immoral, illegal and treasonous deeds. All that remains is to incarcerate him.

Story: Rush: Should Tea Parties Lead to 3rd Party?

User:  The Proctologist

No matter how many different parties you have you will never please everybody. This is why the party that can lie the best is the one that wins. There are many people that supported Obama that couldn’t tell you how many judges sit on the supreme court. Many for the first time because of color or how much they would get. Than there are the the ones with white guilt that in their minds makes them non racist by voting for a black man that clearly was not the right person for the job. This country has come to the point where everything must be politically correct, we must sacrifice integrity, morals, honor, and now security all in the name of affirmative action. The GOP needs to get back to basics, starting with honesty being the best policy. Than they need to educate the people on the fact that they do much better, and the country does better when they support themselves. “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link” and we wonder why the country is about to snap!!!

It’s the battle of the thesaurus gone awry (benjaminblue) vs. thinly-veiled racism (The Proctologist).  Who will come out on top for today’s dumbest comment?

Former Alabama judge accused of sex with prison inmates

March 28, 2009

Former Mobile County (AL) Circuit Judge Herman Thomas was arrested Friday after being indicted by a grand jury for allegedly sexually abusing inmates.  He is accused of 57 felony counts including ethics violations, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sex abuse, first-and-second-degree extortion and first-degree sodomy.  Thomas is out of policy custody on $287,500 bond.

The nature of the charges is bizarre.  Thomas is accused of “paddling” inmates from the Mobile Metro Jail.

The judges wingman?

The judge's wingman?

Thomas’ attorney Bob Clark contends that Thomas is being unfairly targeted because he is black.

[This is a] high-tech lynching. It’s racism at its finest by the white folks at the courthouse.  They talked about Herman being suspended from Judge Johnston’s courtroom, Joe Koolaid hanging out in Judge Johnston’s courtroom all the time. That’s where it’s coming from, people who’ve got 20 and 30 years for Herman. If you went over to that jail and said say something bad about that judge that sentenced you we’ll let you go, they’d talk.

Mobile Country District Attorney John Tyson Jr. dismissed all notions that the arrest was racially motivated.  Tyson says that if Thomas is convicted, his past cases will have to be examined in case these behaviors affected his judgment.

We’re going to have to take that on a case-by-case basis. I suspect we’ll get what we have been getting in that regard. I think there have been a number of inquiries, but we’ll have to do it on a case-by-case basis.

Either we’ve got a serial spanker on our hands, or racism in Alabama.  I don’t know which is more likely.
